An intermediary claiming to be acting on behalf of Juventus has made inquiries about the potential cost of signing Lionel Messi.
The intermediary is also said to have outlined proposals to Messi’s entourage detailing how he could fit into the Juventus team , according to
Skysports .
Reports in Italy, however, indicated that Juventus are in a difficult financial situation following the coronavirus pandemic, and are unlikely to be able to afford Messi.
Juventus players agreed to waive four months ’ wages from March to help , and reports have claimed they may be forced to sell either Cristiano Ronaldo or Paulo Dybala this summer .
Lionel Messi missed a coronavirus test at Barcelona’s training ground on Sunday morning , club sources have confirmed to AFP , raising the possibility he will now boycott pre -season to force a transfer .
But La Liga have given a boost to Barca ’s hopes of keeping Messi by announcing that the release clause in his contract , set at 700 million euros ( $ 833 million ) , still applies.
Messi and his lawyers believe a separate clause means he should be allowed to leave for free this summer .
Without passing a coronavirus test , Messi will be unable to join team -mates for Ronald Koeman’ s first training session on Monday , with the start of the new La Liga season less than two weeks away .
Messi was due for testing at 10 .15 am on Sunday but according to sources at Barcelona, he failed to show up at the Ciutat Esportiva .
The club ’s captain and greatest ever player could now be punished with a fine and even a reduction in salary if the strike continues .
Luis Suarez – his best friend and strike partner – and Arturo Vidal were among those seen arriving for tests , despite both players being told they should find new teams as part of a planned clear -out this summer .
The meet -up was a chance for Messi to make his first public appearance since the burofax stating his intention to leave arrived in the offices of Camp Nou on Tuesday evening .
Instead , his absence offers a clear indication of his determination to secure a move and how ugly this dispute could now become .
Taking part in the team ’ s pre -season programme could damage his legal case if his departure ends up being settled in court .
Barcelona insist a clause included in Messi’ s contract that allowed him to go for free this summer had to be activated by June 10 and the only way the 33 -year -old will be allowed to depart now is via the payment of 700 million euros.
La Liga, who were always likely to take the side of the club , agree that Messi’ s release clause is still valid .
“ The contract is currently in force and has a ‘termination clause ’ applicable if Lionel Andres Messi decides to activate the early unilateral termination of the contract ,” La Liga said in a statement .
“ In compliance with the regulations and procedure in these cases , La Liga will not de – register the player from the ( Spanish football ) federation unless they have previously paid the amount of said clause . ”
Yet Messi’s lawyers believe the clause that allows him to leave for free refers not to a specific date but to 10 days after the end of the season.
Given last season was extended into August due to the pandemic, with the Champions League final only played last weekend , they maintain Messi’s request to leave came within the agreed period.
His absence on Sunday suggests he is prepared to do whatever it takes to quit the club he joined as 13 – year -old boy , and where most expected him to continue all the way through to retirement .

Rafael Benitez ’s Dalian Pro avoided relegation from the Chinese Super League on Thursday , despite winning just three times in 16 games this season.
The Champions League -winning coach breathed a sigh of relief after Dalian overturned a 2 -1 first-leg deficit to beat Shijiazhuang Ever Bright 3 – 2 on aggregate.
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss saw his side win 2 -0 on the evening , just their third victory in the coronavirus- disrupted campaign .
“ In this difficult situation , in this difficult year , we achieved something that was important for the young players and for the Wanda ( Dalian owners ) project , to stay in the Chinese Super League, ” said the 60 – year -old Spaniard.
The CSL revamped its format because of the pandemic, playing the delayed campaign in two secure “ bubbles” over two phases.
In the first phase , Dalian won twice in 14 matches in their group , putting them into a relegation dogfight .
Benitez, who took Liverpool to Champions League glory in 2005 , has often said that he has the youngest team in the CSL .
He was also missing former Napoli star Marek Hamsik for the must -win match , but did have former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon .
“ This competition was very difficult because a knockout competition is very difficult for young players, ” he said .
“ So to achieve what we have achieved is great news for them for the future because they will have more experience now .”
Shijiazhuang can still save themselves from the drop with victory in the next round .

Arteta Excludes Ozil Totally From Arsenal Squad , Says “I Failed With Ozil”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he feels he has “failed” with midfielder Mesut Ozil after leaving him out of his 25-man Premier League squad.
The German, who had also been omitted from the Europa League squad, can now only play for Arsenal Under-23s until his deal expires in summer 2021.
The 32-year-old, who joined Arsenal for a then club record £42.4m in 2013, has not played for the club since 7 March.
“My conscience is very calm because I have been really fair,” said Arteta.
“What I can say from my side is that it is just a football decision. My level of communication with him has been really high and we know what to expect with each other.
“Obviously a player of that dimension, with the career he has had, everything that happens around him has a big impact. It has been the case for the last eight years, it is nothing new that is just happening now. A lot of things have happened over these eight years.
“My job is to get the best out of every player, to contribute to the team performance.
“Here I feel at the moment, today, that I have failed. I want the best possible Mesut for the team. And in some moments I was able to get close to that, and at the moment I have not been able to do it because I have to make the decision to leave him out of the squad.”
‘Loyalty is hard to come by nowadays’ – Ozil
Earlier, in a message to Arsenal fans, Ozil said “loyalty is hard to come by nowadays”.
“I’m really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the Premier League season for the time being,” Ozil wrote on social media.
“Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated.
“I’ve always tried to remain positive from week to week that there’s maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That’s why I kept silent so far.”
Since joining from Real Madrid seven years ago, Ozil has scored 44 goals in 254 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners.
He fell out of favour under previous manager Unai Emery before returning to the side under interim boss Freddie Ljungberg.
After Arteta’s appointment in December 2019, Ozil started all 10 of Arsenal’s Premier League games immediately before the coronavirus pandemic forced a three-month suspension of the top-flight in March.
Earlier in October, he offered to pay the salary of Jerry Quy, the man who plays the role of club mascot Gunnersaurus, who was one of 55 redundancies at the club.
“Before the coronavirus break I was really happy with my development under our new coach Mikel Arteta – we’ve been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level,” Ozil added.
“But then things changed, again, and I was no longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my eighth season at Arsenal end like this.
“I can promise you that this hard decision won’t change anything in my mindset – I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice.”
Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright said he was “gutted” for Ozil.
“Football will never stop surprising me,” he said on Twitter.
“The fact that whatever has gone on couldn’t be resolved between the club and Mesut is sad. Sad for everyone involved and I can only send him strength for what will be a difficult few months knowing he won’t even have a chance to play. Gutted.”
