The President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd .) , will present the 2021 budget at a joint sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday , October 8 , 2020 .
This was contained in a letter written to the National Assembly and read by the Senate President Ahmed Lawan on Tuesday at the resumption of plenary .

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari requesting for the approval of the senate to present the 2020 Appropriations Bill before the National Assembly on Thursday , 8 th October, 2020 .

Reports that the Federal Executive Council had last Wednesday approved a budget estimate of N 13 . 08 tn for the 2021 fiscal year .
The Minister of Finance , Budget and National Planning , Zainab Ahmed , disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting .
The minister said the budget proposal was predicated on $ 379 exchange rate , oil benchmark of $ 40 barrel per day and oil production volume of 1 .86 million per day .
The minister had said, “ The budget assumptions that were presented to the council include : one , crude oil price benchmark at $ 40 per barrel ; two , oil production at 1 .86 million barrels per day ; three , exchange rate of N 379 to $ 1 ; four , Gross Domestic Product growth target of three per cent ; and five , inflation rate of 11 .95 per cent .
“ We have a total aggregate revenue of N 7. 89 tn and also an aggregate expenditure of N 13 .08 tn for 2021 . There is a fiscal deficit of N 4 . 49 tn , this represents 3 . 64 per cent , slightly above what is required by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of three per cent and also to report that the total capital expenditure that is projected in the budget is 29 per cent of the aggregate expenditure.
“ This is an improvement over the 24 per cent that we had in the 2020 budget, but slightly below the 30 per cent that we targeted in the economic recovery . ”

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare , says the President , Major General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd.) , will speak to Nigerians on the Lekki shootings when he has all the facts on the incident .
Dare made this known on Saturday morning.
Buhari addressed the nation on Thursday but has since come under fire by many who described his speech as one lacking empathy .
The President has also been fiercely criticised for keeping silent on the Lekki toll gate shootings of Tuesday night. Eyewitnesses said soldiers opened fire on # EndSARS protesters demonstrating against police brutality and seeking the reform of the Nigeria Police Force.
Dare said the President had ordered an investigation into the Tuesday night incident at the Lekki toll gate.
When asked about the Lekki shootings incident , the minister said , “ For sure , the President has ordered for an investigation . He had a National Security Meeting yesterday ( Friday ) . I can tell you that this is ongoing already.
“ The President wants to have the facts and that is going to be made public .
“ It is going to be difficult to hide all these facts because we live in a multimedia world and we have evidence , collaborations , and all of that , and I think it is important to get the facts right .
“ That is the path that the President has toed and I am sure that when these facts are made available, this President because he has integrity , will level with the Nigerian people about what happened on Tuesday in Lekki .”
At least 30 persons were wounded in the attack , according to the Lagos State Governor , Babajide Sanwo -Olu , who visited the injured youths at various hospitals in the Lekki area earlier in the week .
The eyewitnesses also said at least seven persons died in the shootings .
Tuesday night attack has been condemned by both local and international civil rights organisations and personalities.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has said directed the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission to finalise new salary structure for members of the Nigeria Police Force.
Buhari made this known in a live broadcast on Thursday evening.
Better welfare package for police officers is one of the five-point demands of #EndSARS protesters in the country.
Addressing Nigerians on Thursday, the President said, “With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.”
